11th Annual Boca Grande 5K Run & Walk – February 24, 2013

As a former half marathon runner, I was crushed when the doctors told me I’d never run again due to the pelvis injuries I had sustained and the hardware that remains in my body.

For a while I believed their opinions, but the more I worked on it the more determined I was to prove them wrong. Even though I knew I wasn’t ready, I forced myself to move forward and participate in the 11th Annual Boca Grande 5K Run & Walk with two very important family members.

On February 24, 2013, I was able to walk without a cane and complete this event.  I can’t even begin to tell you the feeling of accomplishment and thankfulness!  Because this WAS the first 5K I had ever done back in 2008 so it was fitting to do it again now post-accident.  It was horribly slow (59:07) and I was pretty close to last, if not last.  My pelvic area was very sore, but I was so grateful that I was able to do it.  I was so grateful that my family was willing to walk the whole race and encourage me along the way.
