In Shelley Shepard Gray’s fourth book in her Charmed Amish Life series, an unlikely Amish romance reveals that Christmas is a time for family, miracles—and love.
Ever since his father died in a tragic fire, Levi Kinsinger has felt adrift. Newly returned to Charm, Ohio, Levi is trying to fit into his old life, only to discover he seems to have outgrown it.
But when Julia, his young widowed neighbor, asks for his help with a Christmas project, Levi finds a sense of purpose for the first time in months. She and her daughter are new to Charm and could use a friend, a job Levi takes personally. Soon enough, friendship grows into attraction, but Levi can’t help having doubts. There’s something about Julia that doesn’t ring quite true…
Like Levi, Julia Kemps has survived her fair share of hardships—but only by hiding the truth of her past. Being an unmarried mother in an Amish community was unthinkable. Feeling hopeless, Julia did the only thing she could do: she moved to a new town and pretended to be a widow. But meeting Levi, she’s hopeful for the first time. Little by little, she begins to imagine telling him her darkest secret, and eventually…perhaps even sharing her life with him.
Christmas is a time for family, and as the holiday draws closer, Julia and Levi will have to face their pasts together…in order to find the healing, support and love they so desperately desire.
Because my mother loves books that are about the Amish life, and because I actually enjoy the author, Shelley Shepard Gray, I knew that we had to be involved in the blog tour for Ms. Gray’s two new books, An Amish Family Christmas and A Sister’s Wish. There will be a separate post for An Amish Family Christmas, but to make the pot even sweeter, there’s also a 5-book giveaway involved in this blog tour, so of course we want to let readers know about the books and the giveaway which ends on November 7!
Here’s my mom’s review of the book:
“An Amish Family Christmas is Shelly’s fourth book in her Charmed Amish Life series and the last one of this series. When Levi’s father was killed in a tragic fire at the family owned mill Levi left Charm, Ohio and moved to Florida to work as a construction worker. He had difficulties getting over his grief of losing his father, but after almost one year in Florida, Levi was returning home. This story is about Levi the last of the Kissinger siblings to find love. It shows families dealing with misunderstandings and still have love for each other.
Returning home and working his old job at the mill, Levi did not feel that he fit any longer and he felt that he had outgrown the old lifestyle. It seemed that all he was doing every day was working long hours and then going home to the empty house he had rented.
Years ago, Julia Kemp had run away from the Amish community where she grew up because she could not face being an unmarried mother in her hometown. She was pregnant and the father of her child was an abusive man. Now, Julia and her six year old daughter Penny had recently moved to Charm, Ohio from Millersburg where she had lived claiming she was a young widow and worked at a motel living in one room. She was looking for a simple life and a new job. She rented a home across the street from Levi’s and found a job at the notions store but was struggling to meet all of her expenses.
Levi needed someone to clean his house before his family came to visit and suggested that Julia could earn extra Christmas money to buy her daughter the Christmas doll that she wanted. Julia made Levi feel good about himself and they quickly became good friends, but could there be romance between Julia with her secret past and Levi? Is Levi ready to stay in Charm or leave for Florida again? Has he learned to deal with his grief?
This is a wonderful romantic story full of faith, family and love all wrapped with the magic of Christmastime. Through An Amish Family Christmas, the author teaches all of us that through love and forgiveness, anything is possible. This was a perfect ending to the series and I really enjoyed them.”
