Standing Between Stephanie and Her Dream Is One Hundred Pounds of Lovable Trouble.

It should have been so simple for Stephanie Pink: Meet up with Agnes Wharton in a small town in California, retrieve the reclusive author’s valuable new manuscript, and be promoted to a full-fledged literary agent. But Agnes’s canine companion, Sweetness, decides to make a break for it before Stephanie can claim her prize. Until Agnes has Sweetness safely back at home in Eagle Cliff, Washington, Stephanie will never set eyes on the manuscript she needs to make her dreams come true. When Stephanie tracks the runaway mutt to a campground, she meets Rhett Hastings—a man also on the run from a different life and a costly mistake. Rhett agrees to help Stephanie search for the missing dog…thus launching a surprising string of adventures and misadventures. Once Sweetness gets added to the mix, it’s a recipe for love and loss, merriment and mayhem, fun and faith in the backwoods of the Pacific Northwest.

Here’s what I say:  Before I can even talk about this book, I have to talk about the Bible verse on the front – one of my favorites! “For I know the plansI have for you,” declares the LORD, “plans to prosper you and not harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” Jeremiah 29:11.

I knew it was going to be a great book just because of that in itself, and I wasn’t wrong at all! First I will say this isn’t the only book I’ve read of Dana Mentink’s! She really knows how to write some pretty cool pups in her stories and I really enjoyed it in the other book I read. Funny stuff here! I read this book at my desk at work because (1) it was a smaller book and easy to carry; and (2) because I just couldn’t wait to read it!

Stephanie Pink – yes, her last name is Pink – don’t you love it? Anyway, Stephanie Pink is the heroine of this book, and she’s hooked on books – kind of like yours truly.  She can’t seem to go any period of time without reading a book or she gets anxious.  She’s an aspiring literary agent and had been dreaming of it since she read a book by Agnes Wharton as a kid.  She is sent by her boss to pick up a manuscript by none other than Agnes Wharton – one that they’d been waiting for over 15 years. Tragically, when she meets Agnes, her dog, Sweetness, takes off and the story begins!

At the same time, Stephanie is also like most girls and is in search of her “happily ever after”.  Enter Rhett Hastings, a retired CEO, who stepped down from his job to take care of his sister after a bad accident where she suffered brain trauma.  Before her accident, Rhett had treated her pretty bad and she had disowned him but of course, with the injury she doesn’t recall that fact. Rhett feels that God is telling him to return to the orchard in Oregon where they had grown up.  Of course, on his way there, he bumps into none other than Stephanie Pink.

This is where the “happily ever after ” may or may not kick in (no spoilers here). Rhett rescues Stephanie and Sweetness and even helps her get the dog to Washington! Both Rhett and Stephanie find themselves on a crazy journey that will definitely change their lives. And just like the author reveals at the beginning of the book, God has a plan for them (Jeremiah 29:11).  Of course, they soon find out His plan isn’t anything like their individual plans and His is way better! .

I give this sweet little book 5 stars out of 5 for style of writing, flow of the storyline, the depth of the characters, and of course the hilarious dog!! I see Dana Mentink has the next book in the Love Unleashed series out in February of 2017, and I will be looking out for that book as well!

So now, here’s what “they” say:
