KIND Bars Review #kindawesome

Have you seen KIND bars in the stores? Have you tried them? I had never noticed them until one day I saw them in a Facebook feed and got curious. I wrote the company and they sent me some samples to review for you here today. (I will admit though, now that I’ve received these samples, I have opened my eyes and realize that they are carried all over town in every store where I shop!)

While I received a total of five different flavors, they are broken into two categories, the “Nut & Spices” flavor and and the “STRONG & KIND” flavor. In the “Nut & Spices” category, the KIND website’s store has eight different flavors, two of which I received: (1) Madagascar Vanilla Almond and (2) Maple Glazed Pecan and Sea Salt. (The other six “Nut & Spices” flavors are: (1) Carmel Almond & Sea Salt, (2) Dark Chocolate Nuts & Sea Salt, (3) Cashew & Ginger Spice, (4) Dark Chocolate Chili Almond, (5) Dark Chocolate Cinnamon Pecan, and (6) Dark Chocolate Mocha Almond.)

“Nut & Spices” Bars:

The KIND Maple Glazed Pecan and Sea Salt bar is a sweet and salty combination of pecans, almonds, and peanuts with just the right touch of premium maple and sea salt. I really enjoyed this flavor, as I am actually very partial to pecans, love sea salt AND maple glaze. It was the perfect combination of flavor for me. Even though KIND lists this bar as a pecan bar, the ingredients include: mixed nuts (almonds, peanuts, pecans), chicory root fiber, honey, non GMO glucose, crisp rice, maple syrup, sea salt, natural maple flavor, soy lecithin. The listed vitamins and minerals were: Vitamin A (2% ), Vitamin C (0%), Calcium (4% ), Iron (8%), Phosphorus (10%), Magnesium (15%), Copper (15%), Manganese (25%). While the bar is 210 calories, only 150 of those calories are fat calories. This bar has only 5 grams of sugar, with 6 grams of protein, 5 grams of fiber, and only 13 carbs for the entire bar. Those are good numbers in my book.

The KIND Madagascar Vanilla Almond bar is a fresh and tasty combination of mixed nuts (almonds, peanuts, cashews and walnuts) with delicious Madagascar vanilla. I wouldn’t be able to tell you which bar I liked better, they were both very flavorful. This bar is the same as the other one in that it lists this is an almond bar, the ingredients include: mixed nuts (almonds, peanuts, cashews, walnuts), honey, non GMO glucose, chicory root fiber, crisp rice, madagascar vanilla, soy lecithin. The listed vitamins and minerals in this bar were: Vitamin A (0%), Vitamin C (0%), Calcium (6%), Iron (6%), Vitamin E (25%), Vitamin K (2%), Vitamin B1 (4%), Vitamin B2 (10%), Vitamin B3 (10%), Vitamin B6 (4%), Folate (6%), Phosphorus (15%), Magnesium (20%), Zinc (8%), Copper (20%), Manganese (35%). This bar is 210 calories, but only contains 140 fat calories. The protein is contained in this bar is 7 grams, with only 4 grams of sugar, 5 grams of fiber, and only 14 carbs for this bar.  Again, great numbers for my diet.

“STRONG & KIND” Bars – I’ll be very honest with you – these flavors scared me a bit. I can have a very sensitive stomach that is not strong, nor is it kind sometimes. I opted to pass these bars on to my son, Mike, who said he loved the Thai Sweet Chili and the Roasted Jalapeño, but he hadn’t tried the Honey Mustard bar as of the time of this post.

The KIND Honey Mustard bar – here’s what KIND says: “Sweet and spicy. We don’t mean putting hot sauce on your ice cream (unless you love hot sauce and ice cream), we mean honey mustard. It can’t decide if it wants to give you a hug or a slap on the back. Kind of like your crazy uncle except, made from whole nuts and seeds, it actually tastes good. And it won’t make you listen to stories about the ‘glory years’. You’re welcome.” The ingredients of this bar are almonds, honey, pumpkin seeds, non GMO glucose, pea crisp (pea protein isolate, rice flour, rice starch), hemp seeds, sea salt, onion powder, chipotle chili, ancho chili, sunflower lecithin, distilled vinegar, garlic powder, mustard seed, black pepper, mustard seed oil, tumeric, paprika. The listed vitamins and minerals were: Vitamin A 2%, Vitamin C 0%, Calcium 8%, Iron 10%, Vitamin E 30%, Vitamin B2 15%, Phosphorus 20%, Magnesium 25%, Copper 20%, Manganese 40%. This bar is 230 calories, with 140 being the fat calories. This bar is a whopping 10 grams of protein, 6 grams of subar and 3 grams of fiber, with 15 grams of carbs.

The KIND Thai Sweet Chili – “Sounds pretty exotic right? Almost makes you want to quit your job and move to a remote beach? Ok, well slow down. We like the enthusiasm, but try this bar first. It may not give you a tan, but with bold flavor from all natural ingredients, at least your taste buds will get a vacation.” The ingredients are almonds, honey, non GMO glucose, pumpkin seeds, pea crisp (pea protein isolate, rice flour, rice starch), hemp seeds, turbinado sugar, sea salt, spices (ginger, red pepper, parsley, black pepper, basil, coriander, cinnamon), onion powder, garlic powder, sunflower lecithin, paprika, tomato powder, jalapeño chili, citric acid. The listed vitamins and minerals were: Vitamin A 2%, Vitamin C 0%, Calcium 8%, Iron 10%, Vitamin E 30%, Vitamin B2 15%, Phosphorus 15%, Magnesium 25%, Copper 15%, Manganese 40%. This bar is 230 calories, with 140 being fat calories. This bar is just like the Honey Mustard bar with a whopping 10 grams of protein, 6 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fiber, with 15 grams of carbs.

The KIND Roasted Jalapeño – “When you see the word jalapeño, do you start to sweat a little? Sweat like you’re waiting in line for the world’s fastest roller coaster? You know, a little nervous, a little excited? Packed with all natural roasted jalapeño, this bar is that kind of hot.” The ingredients are almonds, pumpkin seeds, honey, non GMO glucose, pea crisp (pea protein isolate, rice flour, rice starch), hemp seeds, jalapeño chili, onion powder, garlic powder, smoked sea salt, sunflower lecithin. The listed vitamins and minerals are: Vitamin A 4%, Vitamin C 2%, Calcium 6%, Iron 10%, Vitamin E 30%, Vitamin B2 15%, Phosphorus 20%, Magnesium 25%, Copper 20%, Manganese 40%. Just like the other two bars in this category, this bar is 230 calories, with 140 being fat calories. This bar also contains a whopping 10 grams of protein, 6 grams of sugar and 3 grams of fiber, with 15 grams of carbs.
