As a former half marathon runner, I was crushed when the doctors told me I’d never run again due to the pelvis injuries I had sustained and the hardware that remains in my body. For a while I believed their opinions, but the more I worked on it the more determined I was to prove them wrong.
On September 14, 2013, I participated in the a local race called Remember the Fallen 5K Memorial Run. I was able to do a combination of running and walking throughout the race. I felt pretty good and it was nice to be able to run even if it was only for short distances. Still a slow time (45:11), but a finish nonetheless. I figure it can only get better from here.
