As part of the NetGalley community, I often have an opportunity to read books before they are released to the public. Since I’m always open to authors I wouldn’t ordinarily be familiar with, I was excited to read the subject of today’s post, The Surrogate by Louise Jensen.
Kat and her husband, Nick are desperate for a baby and they’ve tried everything, but Kat is just not able to conceive. They have suffered so many heartaches and Kat and Nick try to adopt, but they fail again. Then Kat runs into her “ex” best friend, Lisa and something crazy happens – Lisa offers to become their surrogate. But Lisa is an “ex” friend for a reason – something happened between them ten years ago and they severed all ties with each other. Kat has never forgiven herself and has even kept it a secret from Nick. Lisa has secrets of her own too, and as readers dive into this story, it’s hard to figure out whether or not Lisa can even be trusted. Slowly, readers begin to see things that are falling apart and learn that Lisa isn’t really who she says she is.
I can’t say too much about this plot since I don’t write spoilers. I will say that this novel is definitely entertaining and keeps readers on the edge of their seats trying to figure out exactly what the heck is going on.
Louise Jensen does an amazing job of leading readers down this suspenseful path of hidden secrets leaving clues that had us trying to figure out this twisty story! The Surrogate is a fast-paced and entertaining, while intriguing and I felt like I was watching a train head toward a wreck! I enjoyed the suspense and anticipation of wondering what would happen next and to see how things would all end and I felt the author did a great job of building up the suspense throughout the story.
